3 Things to Consider When Building a Home

If you are in the stage of life where you are wanting to build a custom home, it can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. You want to make all the right decisions so that it can be yours forever home. But when it comes to building a home, there are a lot of decisions to be made. Even the smallest things, you will have to decide and make a decision on. There are a lot of different construction companies that can help you build a home and can offer advice to you along the way if you wanted. You may have a list of must-haves in your dream home, but there are some things that seem to be forgotten when building a custom home. Below are some of the common things that you may not think about but should for your next home.

Outlet Placement

Obviously, you will need outlets throughout your home. Common places for these are about a foot off the ground on your walls. A few places to consider besides the walls could be on the ends of your island. This can make it easier for baking on the island. Another location within your kitchen could be your pantry, especially if you have designed a larger pantry that can store all of your larger appliances such as kitchen aid, toaster, and air fryer. This allows these items to be off your counters and used behind the pantry door. One more location to consider would be the closets. With cordless vacuums on the rise, you will want a plug in your closets to be able to charge your vacuum in the closets rather than in the open.

Windows

Windows are a standard feature of all homes and are required. You may choose the standard windows throughout your home, but you may want to consider the best locations for your windows and sizes. Especially in your living area, the larger the windows the more natural light will be able to come in and it will make the home feel more open. Having larger windows such as a bay window, your home will feel homier and add value to your home if you ever choose to sell. Having natural light in your home is beneficial to all those who reside in it as well.

Home Direction

Another thing to consider is what way your home faces. North, east, south, and west would be the options. Depending on a few things, there may a direction that is best for your home. If you want to have shade in your backyard in the evenings from your homes shadow you would want your home to face to the west. You may not be able to always choose exactly which direction you want due to where your lot is and if it has covenants that you have to follow. But you can also add a covered back patio or gazebo to accommodate what you are wanting with the direction your home faces.
