It may have been such a tough year for all of us, but fortunately, we have heaps of reasons to be thankful for one way or another. Now that Thanksgiving is right around the corner, it would be fantastic to prepare a few classic ideas that would make this year’s celebration more meaningful. These would hopefully get you ready and excited about one of the most celebrated times of the year. Let’s get started!
1. Thoughtfully Prepare Your Home Decoration
Nothing will beat getting together with loved ones and reuniting with old friends and family during this time of the year. The memories you create on Thanksgiving will always be remembered. Not to mention the salivating Thanksgiving dinner that you’ll prepare! While these are crucial, you can make your Thanksgiving dinner even more memorable by thoughtfully preparing your home decoration. For starters, you can start with simple tablecloth linens, candles, flowers, and some special silverware you got saved for special occasions.
Spice up the theme and make a few twists so the evening will be talked about even in future family gatherings. It would be nice to improvise and unleash your creativity, however, making house decorations from scratch may be a hassle for busy professionals like you. Thankfully, if you don’t have the time or resources to improvise, there are tons of aesthetic home and thanksgiving table decor you can buy that are ready to use! Hoard those compliments from relatives as they enjoy the eye-catching embellishments that will adorn your home this Thanksgiving.
2. Invite a Neighbor or Nearby Friend Who Lives Far From Their Immediate Family
One of the best ways to celebrate this season of gratitude is by opening your home to others. There must be someone in your mind right now who lives close by but is currently away from their immediate family. It could be an old friend, that college student living next door, or anyone who might not have plans for thanksgiving.
Have them over! As the saying goes, the more the merrier! And you’ll never know–the mere invitation might just warm their hearts as much as it would warm yours–especially when there is another smile in your home that can celebrate with your family. This would surely strengthen the bond between your family, relatives, and nearby friends.
3. Create a Hearty Pumpkin Spice Drink for Everyone
This time of the year wouldn’t be complete without pumpkin spice. Whip up a customized hearty beverage for everyone–whether it is based with coffee for the adults and teens, hot chocolate for the kids, or black earl tea for grandma and grandpa–there’s bound to be a perfect pumpkin spice drink for everyone.
Here’s how to make it! Mix 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, ½ a teaspoon of ground nutmeg, ½ a teaspoon of ground ginger, and ¼ a teaspoon of ground cloves. These should make about four servings, so just double the recipe depending on the number of people. For every drink, simply add to taste, and voila!
4. Invite Those Who Are Willing to Say a Short Thanksgiving Toast at Dinner
Over dinner, propose a toast! You may start by saying a few words of thanks to a person or two at the table, and keep things going by asking those who are willing to say a short thanksgiving message to anyone. Expressing your appreciation to the people you love will warm your hearts and hopefully make a ripple effect on everyone else.
Since a toast from everyone would take a while, especially for big families, try this twist around the table. It’s called Thanksgiving A to Z, where the first person thinks of something or someone they are thankful for that starts with the letter A–and it goes on until you all reach Z. This would make a perfect icebreaker while enjoying dinner.
5. Pull a Surprise “Ugly Thanksgiving Sweater” Contest
If many families do Ugly Sweater Contests at Christmas, why not do it on Thanksgiving! The twist you can do here is, no one would know about it. That way, crowning the winner with the best ugly sweater would be all candid. You may give them fifty bucks or a prize you’re sure that everyone in your family would love to have. It can also be a good laugh at the end of the night or even a memory worth cherishing and mentioning in future Thanksgivings.
If this is quite getting old for you and your family, you can do a Craziest Socks contest. It can bring as much fun–since you’d never know who will win!
Reward Those Who Chose to Stay Connected
You may not find it surprising that the kids, teens, and even the adults would have their eyes glued to their phones and devices–especially during such gatherings. Another secret game you can play is this: put a coffee table that has a sign “Put your gadgets here!” someplace visible. Do not impose it, but just observe and take note of those who would care to set aside their phones to stay more connected with everyone. After the Ugly Sweater Contest, reward those who at some point put their device on the coffee table and ready for them a reward or a little love gift. That is to show that there’s something nice that comes from not being on social media all the time. Thanks for reading ‘til the end and we hope that you enjoy a fun and meaningful Thanksgiving this 2021!
